Your Journal stays local first

Your authoritative Journal is stored locally on your device. SmokeShow does not require a SmokeShow account or store your Journal on a SmokeShow server. Plan, Smoke and Journal continue to work offline.

Optional iCloud Protection

iCloud Protection is off until you choose to enable it. When enabled, SmokeShow stores a private copy of selected cook-history data in your Apple iCloud account. This can include planning details, the cut or cook name, weight, smoker and target temperatures, probe history, cook lifecycle and timing state, notes, ratings, favourite state, and wrap and rest information.

The copy is kept in Apple's private CloudKit database and its cook-history contents are stored using encrypted CloudKit values. Uploads happen separately from local saves and may be delayed when your network or iCloud account is unavailable. SmokeShow does not use this data for advertising, analytics or tracking.

Photos and videos are not included. SmokeShow does not upload their bytes, filenames, paths, thumbnails or local media identifiers through iCloud Protection. Your local media, widget snapshot and notification schedules remain on your device.

Control and limits

You can turn iCloud Protection off in Settings & About. Turning it off stops new protection work; it does not delete your local Journal or previously protected records in iCloud. If you sign out of iCloud, change Apple accounts, or encrypted iCloud data becomes unavailable, protection pauses and may require your attention. Your local Journal remains available.

iCloud Protection is intended to support a future recovery experience. Recovery is not available in this version, is not a guaranteed backup, and is not live multi-device or collaborative synchronization.

Your choices come first

On a fresh install, SmokeShow shows its privacy disclosure before the usual splash animation. Anonymous analytics are off by default, and crash-reporting choice is presented before optional telemetry can become effective. Both choices remain available in Settings & About.

Optional app analytics

In-app analytics are off by default. If production diagnostics are configured for the distributed build and you opt in, SmokeShow can use Firebase Analytics to send fixed feature events such as whether a cook, rest timer, Live Activity, Settings, or support link was used. Events may include fixed categories such as a built-in preset, manual or preset creation, app or App Intent source, and completion path.

App analytics never include user-entered cook names, note text, photos, videos, email addresses, exact temperatures, exact timings, session IDs, precise location, or a SmokeShow user ID. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings & About.

Crash reports

After the first-launch privacy notice, crash reporting is presented as on unless you switch it off. If production diagnostics are configured, Firebase Crashlytics may receive crash stacks, app version and build, build configuration, device and operating-system details, and sanitized infrastructure failure categories. SmokeShow does not attach cook content, raw error text that may contain user data, or a user identifier. Crash reports can be disabled in Settings & About.

What leaves the device

If you enable iCloud Protection, the selected cook-history copy described above is sent to your private iCloud database. This choice is separate from telemetry consent. Optional fixed analytics events and enabled crash diagnostics may also be sent to Firebase as described on this page. Firebase may process technical identifiers and network information needed to operate those services. SmokeShow does not use advertising SDKs, ad tracking, cross-app tracking, Firebase identity, messaging, or performance monitoring.

Website analytics

If you allow it, this website uses Google Analytics 4 for page views, sessions, general traffic sources and planner funnel events. Analytics do not load before that choice. Exact cooking inputs and generated planner results are excluded. Website analytics are separate from app telemetry; SmokeShow does not join website activity to in-app Firebase Analytics, App Store activity or your local Journal records.

App Store and email

The download link opens Apple's App Store service. Apple processes that purchase and install flow under its own terms and privacy practices. If you send SmokeShow an email, your email provider and SmokeShow's email provider process the address, message, and any information you choose to include so we can reply. Email content is not added to app analytics.
